One of the nine New York City casino bids is sweetening its offering by including an equity component that allows New Yorkers to invest in and reap the financial rewards of the property’s future successes, reflecting the scope of casino development.

Freedom Plaza is a whopping $10 billion investment though it’s just one among several proposals vying for a gaming license from the New York Gaming Facility Location Board. With the backing of the Soloviev Group and the Mohegan Tribe, this proposal stands out by allowing residents of the five boroughs to invest in the project, aiming to create a mutually beneficial relationship.

- Investment Offering: Up to 12% equity in Freedom Plaza will be offered to New Yorkers, enhancing local involvement.

- Residential Development: The project will feature 1,047 new apartments, including 513 designated as “permanently affordable units.” A nearly five-acre public park is also planned.

According to the developers, a big part of this initiative involves establishing long-term beneficial relationships with the local community. Michael Hershman, CEO of the Soloviev Group, stated, “We would be thrilled to offer a financial interest to these stakeholders.” This initiative builds on a trend of community-driven equity offerings as seen in other urban casino proposals.

If Freedom Plaza wins one of the coveted gaming licenses, the investors will be given priority to ensure broad community participation. The New York Gaming Facility Location Board is expected to announce the successful projects by December, with applicants paying a substantial one-time fee of $500 million.
